Educational and Professional Background

Mark Shifflette, MSW, is a licensed Mental Health Counselor. He received his MSW from the University of Washington in 1975. His Practicum was completed at the Child Development Center at the University Hospital. He completed a teacher’s certificate in Special Education in 1973.

Mark has had professional experience in a number of different areas of mental health, and education/child development. He has been a child, family, and adult outpatient therapist in a mental-health center. He has been director of an agency providing treatment foster care for a number of children. He has formulated treatment programs for children with serious behavior problems, and has developed programs for seriously at risk adolescents, including re-developing an alternative high school and serving as it’s principal. He has been a consultant to school districts and Head Start centers around program issues, and formulated analysis and treatment programs for individual children. In the area of serious thought disorders, he has been the supervisor of an experimental treatment center for young schizophrenics and assistant director of a day treatment center for adult schizophrenics.

Areas of Special Interest

Mark Shifflette sees children, adolescents, adults and families, for a variety of concerns. These issues include depression, anxiety, mood disorders, ADHD, oppositional behavior, anger management and relationship issues. He is also experienced in working with parenting and school issues, and phase of life and career issues. He uses a variety of techniques in his approach including cognitive-behavioral and developmental psychology related approaches derived from a number of practitioners.
