Educational and Professional Background
Nancy Quigg earned her Master's Degree in Cross Cultural Psychology from Western Washington University in 1983. In 1978 she graduated from Acadia University , Nova Scotia with an Honour's Degree in Psychology and Biology.
She worked as a neuropsych psychometrist at the I.W.K. Hospital for Children in Halifax N.S. and with autistic and neurologically impaired children and adolescents at Sunny Hill Hospital and Laurel House in Vancouver B.C.
Nancy has also served as a volunteer for the Whatcom/Skagit County CISM Industrial Team and the CISM Police Fire Teams leading debriefings following fatal accidents or trauma in the workplace. She loved the work and "the team spirit was the finest I've ever encountered."
Nancy's treatment philosophy includes working from a personal psychology premise that is optimistic and explorative. She uses Socratic questioning to help discover and change perceptions and behavior. She prescribes specific reading, exercise, self care and charting to engage the client towards a momentum of change between sessions. She works with both problem solving and long-term therapies and would be glad to discuss the difference with you.
She has a special fondness for groups and couples in the midst of transition. As needed, she works closely with medical staff to provide education and treatment when medicine can be an adjunct to therapy.
